Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Drive Day?
A Drive Day gives you the chance to explore the limits of your car in a controlled, safe environment. Circuits across Australia (and worldwide) offer track access, but not all are equally accessible. Drive Events Pty Ltd aims to make it easy for drivers of almost any car, and any experience level, to get on track and enjoy the experience.
How much track time do I get?
At our Drive Days and Test & Tune events, participants receive a minimum of 6 × 15-minute sessions, unless otherwise stated.
Our Performance Drive School includes a minimum of 5 × 23-minute sessions.
If event numbers allow, we’ll always try to give you extra track time. In rare cases where delays or on-track incidents occur, session time may be reduced — but we do our best to ensure every available minute is used wisely.
What licence do I need?
Licensing requirements vary by circuit:
Phillip Island: You’ll need a road-registered car and a licence valid for Victorian roads. Interstate and international licences are accepted, provided you’re legally permitted to drive in Victoria.
Calder Park: Events run under a Motorsport Australia (MA) permit, so all drivers must hold an MA licence.
If you don’t already have one, we can organise a day licence for you.
What safety clothing do I need?
We always recommend using the highest level of safety gear available. The minimum requirements for all Drive Events Drive Days are:
An approved helmet
Non-flammable clothing covering ankles to wrists
Socks
Closed-toe shoes
We also offer hire gear (helmets, race suits, and gloves). Pre-booking is essential.
Can I bring passengers?
Phillip Island & Broadford: Passengers are not permitted unless the event is specifically advertised as a passenger event.
Calder Park Test & Tune: Passengers are allowed for an additional fee, which can be booked when entering the event.
Important notes:
Passengers must wear the same level of protective gear as the driver.
All on-track rules must be followed and are strictly enforced.
Passenger rides will be cut short or cancelled if any wheel leaves the racing surface.
What is the Drive Events Performance Drive School?
Racing drivers aren’t just brave — they understand how to keep a car stable. Speed comes from stability, and stability comes from correct driver inputs.
Our Performance Drive School focuses on throttle, steering, and braking techniques that keep the car balanced and maximise grip. The program combines classroom theory with on-track coaching, helping drivers replace bad habits with smooth, confident control — skills that also translate directly to safer everyday driving.
What is Flexi-Drive Booking Protection?
We know plans can change. Work commitments, illness, car issues, or even the weather can sometimes get in the way of attending an event.
While Drive Events can’t refund entries for non-attendance (see our T&Cs), Flexi-Drive Booking Protection helps reduce the risk of losing your booking fee by allowing you to reschedule.
With Flexi-Drive, you can move your Drive Day or Performance Drive School booking up until 8:00am on the event day if you’re unable to attend.
How Flexi-Drive works:
Costs $25 per booking (in addition to the entry fee)
Must be purchased at least 14 days before the event
Applies to one booking only (multiple entries require multiple Flexi-Drive purchases)
Allows one reschedule to any Drive Events date within 12 months
A $75 transfer excess applies when Flexi-Drive is used
Flexi-Drive is for rescheduling only, not cancellation
Drive Events must be notified before 8:00am on the event day
It’s a simple way to book with confidence and protect your track time.
